AVG Anti-Virus is free for home users, and probably is the most popular antivirus solution out there. Beside the free AVG version, they do offer 2 commercial solutions: AVG Anti-Virus Pro and AVG Internet Security.
AVG Anti-Virus Pro is offered via Trialpay for free, as long as you complete one offer from Trialpay. You can get it here: AVG Anti-Virus Pro 8.5 free for 1 year.
The "complete an offer" first sounds a bit tricky, but trust me that if you used Trialpay before there's always a chance you'd complete an offer that costs you way less then the full price of AVG Anti-Virus Pro (normally $35) or even find an offer that requires no money from you, just to sign-up.
What features does AVG Anti-Virus Pro offer:
- Protects you against viruses, spyware, adware and trojans
- Protects in real time while you’re surfing against web pages with malicious code
- Offers real-time safety ratings for search results (Google, Yahoo and Bing)
- Installs the AVG security Toolbar
- Scans your downloads and prevents infections through instant messaging applications
- Protects against hidden threats such as rootkits
My review of AVG Anti-Virus Pro: Overall, AVG Anti-Virus is what I normally recommend to users that need a free solution and are from a country that doesn’t have any Trialpay offers to benefit from the Pro edition. I’ve been using AVG Pro (network edition) well over 2 years now, and my only complaint with it is the fact that if you enter a folder with multiple executable files (such as the one I keep my downloads in), I feel a bit of a slowdown as it screens through all the downloads. However, this is a minor inconvenience given that it saved my arse a lot of times now, mainly through blocking temporary “poisoned” files that infected web pages place in. I highly recommend AVG Anti-virus.
AVG Anti-Virus is only one of many other offers that Trialpay has, you can see a full list in one of my older (but updated) posts – “Free with Trialpay” list of offers.
Other ways to get AVG Anti-Virus for free: they do promotions with magazines from time to time and give free versions for 1 year, but right now I’m not aware of any active promotion. So if you want to be legit (i.e. not using avg cracked from a rapidshare link, which is highly risky) Trialpay is the option for AVG Pro.
